In advance of the Tea Parties that were held throughout the nation, the Department of Homeland Security had issued several memorandums across the country to state and local law enforcement officials in conjunction with the National Fusion Centers targeting and profiling various individuals and groups labeled "right wing extremists" based merely on political ideology. For several articles with respect to the political furor this has caused, please see:

In fact, included within these memorandums was this open ended and rather broad definition of "right wing extremists" according to the Department:
"Right wing extremism," the report said in a footnote on Page 2, goes beyond religious and racial hate groups and extends to "those that are mainly anti-government, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely."
"It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration," said the report, which also listed gun owners and veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars as potential risks."
For those that were critical of the Bush Administration's Patriot Act, and also the "racial profiling" objections which have been raised with respect to the illegal immigrant situation, it appears the Obama Administration has done one better. It is now profiling individuals not on nationality or country of origin, which might be at least a little more understandable given that there are many foreign nationals living in this country, but simply on native born or naturalized Americans political ideology itself - a protected and enumerated right under the U.S. Constitution given U.S. citizens.
For those in our federal, state, local and city government, please view the below law which has been codified enforcing the Constitutional rights of all Americans granted in the Constitution to freely associate, assemble and speak their political minds no matter how "extremist" it might seem to others:
Under U.S.C. Title 18 Sec. 241 242 all governmental Federal, State, City and County officials,
"Whoever, under color of any law or color of office, ... willfully subjects any person ... to the deprivation of any rights ... protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States ... shall be fined ... or imprisoned not more than one year, or both."
While the Republicans now are playing outraged victim somewhat also, since there are many within its ranks that are also "liberal" in Constitutional construction in numerous areas, no word has been mentioned by the mainstream media or those Republican members that in late 2007 the entire U.S. House of Representatives, with the exception of 35 members, passed another one of their behind closed doors "Acts," the "Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Act of 2007."
This Bill is still pending in the Senate as far as can be ascertained, although monies in order to fund the provisions in the bill and agencies which would be involved in enforcing this Act were also included within the stimulus bill - and are being utilized obviously by the Department of Homeland Security for just such purposes.
While the Senators now are free to moan and yell, keeping their political hands, as it were, clean. Although, of course, the Senate also passed that stimulus bill with those funding provisions. And the recent budget which also included sums for DHS operations.
So, again, we have politcal posturing for the American people on both sides of the aisle for another clear violation and attack on American's civil liberties at its core, by all "liberal" governmental officials on both sides of the aisle, who clearly "hate" the Constitution and now all those Americans that support those civil liberties, freedoms and protection against government granted under it, and are now no more than a "hate group" in and of themselves.
Clearly not representatives of the people in such positions due to the sheer number of individuals such broad language encompasses and targets - anyone really outside those holding high federal office and policy makers.
Individuals who would not even be holding office at all right now unless those "radical" founders had not fought against foreign control and dominance, in that original war and resulting Constitutional convention - they died to give Americans those privileges and rights and as a "check" against the government itself.
The even more strange part is that the only apologies that are coming out of Napolitano's office are those allegations against the Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans. She is standing by the memo in all other respects.
No apologies to the millions of other Americans also who have been "politically profiled" on the basis of their political ideology and Constitutional positions with respect to the right to bear arms, free speech and assembly, property protections, criminal and civil rights rights due process provisions and protections as set forth in the Constitution and intended by those founders.
In fact, the memos themselves have "labeled" and removed "due process" in branding Americans due to political ideology and positions that are not in accordance with governmental "unconstitutional" policies criminals even when no actual crime (injury or property loss against another) has even been committed.
It appears this Department and Washington has lost its way in defining just who the real terrorists are. Americans, or as demonstrated by 9/11 and the now southern border situation, foreigners?
For any interested American, the link for the Senate version of the "Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Act," pending in the Senate (but funded under the stimulus) is below. The House, version, which passed 400-35 was originally sponsored by Jane Harman (D-CA) and several other Democrats, but obviously had overwhelming bi-partisan support.
And while the outrage which has resulted has been directed toward the veterans inclusion, clearly in the language contained it also targets the entire Catholic faith, victims of illegal immigrant property and violent crimes and border security advocates, gun owners, in fact nearly three fourths the U.S. population by the satisfaction level of the American people now with those serving on the Hill and in Congress and their continual Constitutional violations.
